Rivalta Lifestyle Hotel close to the Vittoriale Gardone Riviera
A gift to italians from Gabriele D'Annunzio
The Vittoriale is one of the main attractions of Lake Garda. It is a place rich in history and nature. The complex consists of buildings, streets, squares, an open-air theatre, gardens and waterways and was built between 1921 and 1938 in Gardone Riviera. The complex was the home of the great poet-soldier Gabriele D'annunzio, today a monument open to the public. The house consists of many rooms, each of which contains a vast quantity of objects from many different cultures, which is why each room is so different and fascinating from the others.
The museums
The Victoriale degli Italiani houses the Museo d'Annunzio Hero and the Museo d'Annunzio Secret.
The Museo d'Annunzio eroe is a museum that celebrates the heroism of the poet and the Italian people during the First World War. Inside we can find objects such as military valour medals and various military uniforms that belonged to d'Annunzio and other Italian generals.
The secret D'Annunzio Museum was inaugurated in 2010, in the large underground exhibition space. The museum contains objects that were unknown to visitors until 2010 because they were contained in the various cupboards and drawers of the house. Here we can find objects of various kinds: clothes, shoes, desk objects, pottery and jewellery. We also find a section completely dedicated to suitcases and hats.
Park and gardens
In the park, at the top of the Victoriale, we find D'Annunzio's mausoleum built after his death. It is also possible to visit in the hangar the MAS 96, a wooden motorboat used by d'Annunzio. Inside the park we find the wonderful military ship Puglia. The ship was sectioned and transported to the Vittoriale by rail, where it was reassembled. In the garden, moreover, we find the tomb of d'Annunzio's daughter. The immense garden is composed of elements and symbols which were very important for the poet, because they represented a specific event of his life or his various sources of inspiration. For example we find "the portico of the Parente", named after Michelangelo Buonarroti because the poet considered himself similar to him for affinity and genius.
